GROUPWARE TECHNOLOGIES
Abstract
The success of any organization depends upon the combined effort of each individual working in the organization. Certain policies and procedures should i.e. technology be implemented in the organization to ensure success, in order to make the company more organized and employees unified in their work. The key factor to the above can be described as Groupware.
Introduction
The term groupware can be referred to a specific class of technologies that rely on modern computer networks, such as e-mail, chat, newsgroup or videophones. Programs that enable real time teamwork are called Groupware. Groupware services can include the sharing of calendar, collective writing, e-mail handling, shared database access, electronic meetings with each person able to see and display information to others, and other activities.
Groupware is software that helps the members of a network workgroup to communicate with each other and irrespective of their physical locations all over the world, can share the information, documents and the data. The members of the network can work on the same project at one time but it requires no duplication of work. There is no limitation for the number of people and can collaborate on ideas and projects. [1]
Groupware refers to programs that help people work together collectively while located remotely from each other, with cooperative requirements in mind. It is not just a tool for communication and can be classified relying on the work of participants (when and where). When implementing groupware technology there can be specific and difficult problems.

a) Whether users of the groupware are working together at the same time-real time or synchronous. Different times-Asynchronous.
b) Whether users are working together in the same place-collocated or face-to-face. Different places-non collocated or distance (remote).
c) Shared applications and artifacts.
Some product examples of groupware include lotus notes and Microsoft exchange, both of which facilitate calendar sharing, e-mail handling, and the replication of files across a distributed system so that all users can view the same information. [2]

Chatting is one of the popular activities as it involves conversation between people from all walks of life and ages sharing their views and opinions with one another, discuss a wide range of topics in which they are interested around the world just at the comfort of chair.
Basically chat is text based and can involve audio and video. In public chat rooms people represent themselves with their nicknames or some times as graphical icons. Chatting can be a great fun and there is a chance to encounter the risk of being deceived as chatting is basically an unidentified and other users cannot be known. Real time communications can be engaging and educationally useful. It is an easy way of interacting with people and even can interact on professional things, as there is a file transfer option.
There are public chat areas for children; it is impossible to know anything about the people on the internet except what they choose to tell you and it cannot be guaranteed that the users of children’s chat area
s are in fact children.

3. Less communication cost
4. File and photo sharing
5. Can make good friends around the globe.
Ø Disadvantages:
1. Chatting tools may spread virus, which attack the pc
2. We cannot know the person with whom we are talking
3. Long hours chatting may result in bad friends.
